AN IMPRESSIVE new pelagic trawler for the Tait family of Fraserburgh arrived at her home port for the first time last Wednesday to land North Sea mackerel, writes DAVID LINKIE.
Built for the Klondyke Fishing Company and skippered by Willie and Robert Tait, the new Taits FR 227 was built by Karmsund Maritime Service on the Norwegian island of Karmoy.
She is built to a new design developed by Rolls Royce Marine AS Department of Ship Technology, Nordvestconsult.
An emphasis on achieving optimum speed and stability has led to several new design concepts not previously seen on pelagic trawlers.
