The Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA)'s new CEO Ludwig Kumoru said his plans include improving systems for rights-based tuna management in the western and central Pacific and exploring initiatives to add value for the industry and island communities.
He officially stepped into his new role earlier this month. He said there's still work to do to address gaps "to improve governance of the office."
When the PNA office started in 2010, PNA leaders launched several initiatives to establish rights-based control of tuna fishing by purse seiners in PNA exclusive economic zones, such as the Vessel Day Scheme (VDS) and fisheries information management systems.
