Macduff Shipyards is nearing completion of an extensive project to convert the former Peterhead whitefish twin rig trawler Harvest Reaper III PD 142 to a general purpose tug/workboat at Milford Haven.
Conversion work started late last year after the four year old Polish built 28m trawler ran aground at Campay Island north of Great Bernera in Jan 2001 after a steering gear failure. The trawler was towed to Breasclete but was submerged after snagging the pier.
Once refloated, Harvest Reaper III was towed to Leith for a full survey of the hull, which had suffered extensive damage during the initial grounding.
