Rían John N 20, the latest purpose-built inshore boat from Macduff boatbuilders Seaway Marine, is based on a G10 displacement catamaran hull moulded by Gemini Workboats of Colchester.
Built for Brian Cunningham of Cloughmore Shellfish, Kilkeel, Co Down, Rían John is primarily designed as a mussel farm maintenance boat while also being fully rigged for potting predatory green crabs.
Part of the work completed after Rían John arrived at Greencastle was the installation of onboard mussel processing equipment, which was partly funded by a European grant of £18,500 and a national grant of £2,500 from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development under the Building Sustainable Prosperity scheme.
