NATIONAL Coastwatch Institution (NCI) stations provide a vital visual, radar and radio watch support to HM Coastguard during daylight hours. As a charity dedicated to the safety of life for all at sea along the UK coastline, the volunteer watchkeepers routinely log all vessel movements and report to the nearest MRCC if any are in danger.
On a number of occasions NCI reports have also assisted fishermen recover the cost of damaged gear from MoD and other authorities. They can provide a telephoned report on weather conditions outside a sheltered harbour.
