A COBLE preservation society has been formed in Filey on the Yorkshire coast to preserve a coble which was earmarked for burning.
The coble was first known as Margaret (SH 232) and then for approximately three years as Eglantine (SH 232). She has now been returned to her original name.
She was built for a local fisherman, James Wyvill (local nickname 'Jimmy Bass') in 1974 by Gordon Clarkson's West Side Boatyard in Whitby.
The reasons for the concern over this vessel and others are the demise of the North Sea fishery and the loss of the traditional coble builders.
