LOBSTERS inside the UK's first 'no take zone' (NTZ) are bigger and more abundant than outside the area after just 18 months of the scheme.

Scientists are monitoring the NTZ, 12 miles off north Devon, on behalf of English Nature, which announced the first effects of the zone last week.

Lundy NTZ is on the eastern side of the island and is part of a marine nature reserve.

The zone was set up last year, using a Devon Sea Fisheries Committee (DSFC) bye law, to enhance conservation of marine habitats and species.
