Vestværft in Hvide Sande, on the Danish west coast, has delivered the new combination purse seiner/seine netter Einar Erlend to the Meløysund family who fish from Grønøy in northern Norway.
“We had planned to start 2014 on herring, but there was a slight delay in delivery, so instead we will start on cod,” owner Johan M Meløysund said. “This doesn’t cause us any problems and we have plenty of time to take our purse seine quotas.” It’s a well-known name in Norway and previous boats with the same name have consistently been among the top catching boats in the Norwegian coastal fleet, alternating seine netting for demersal species and purse seining for herring and mackerel.
