HEBRIDES sheriff Colin Scott Mackenzie has slammed the UK's enforcement of marine safety following a fatal accident inquiry into the death of a Stornoway fishing skipper, writes Bill Lucas.
Sheriff Mackenzie called for the compulsory wearing of suitable personal floatation devices while on deck and said something positive must be done or more avoidable tragedies would occur, with more families devastated and lives ruined.
The inquiry at Stornoway Sheriff Court in November 2005 returned a formal determination that Skipper Craig Alexander Corbett (26), known as 'Duffy', had died on 19 December 2004, while engaged as a selfemployed fisherman and skipper onboard the 55ft Audacious SY 364.
