MAGGIE Conneely, mother of the owner of a new Irish twin rig trawler, named the boat Maggie C G497after herself at Galway docks last Friday, reports David Linkie.

The trawler was built in France for John, Cliona and Greg Conneely of Inis Mór in the Aran Islands.

Designed and built at the Socarenam Shipyard in Boulogne, Maggie C has an overall length of 24.7m and a beam of 7.4m. In typical French style, the wheelhouse is amidships, leaving plenty of room aft atop the shelterdeck for the four elevated net drums arranged above the open transom, where the catch is taken aboard.
