THE combination of an MaK main engine and Mekanord gearbox provided economical and reliable performance during eight years’ service on Mark Lovie’s Venture II.

So, Finning (UK) Ltd. was asked to supply the slow-running MaK 8M20 main engine of 1060 kW at 900 rpm with two cooling systems for cleaner emissions and a lower NOx value.

The MaK is coupled to a Mekanord 580HS gearbox of 6.06:1 and Hjelseth sterngear to turn a 3000 mm diameter four-blade CP propeller in a Smed Larsen steering nozzle complete with flap rudder.
