The fishery had been there for many years outside the Icelandic EEZ, but it wasn’t until the end of the 1980s that Icelandic trawler operators started to pay attention to the fishery that had been pursued primarily by factory trawlers from nations then behind the Iron Curtain, fishing with pelagic trawls for redfish through the spring and summer months.

 

Netmaker Gudmundur Gunnarsson came up with the original Gloria design, back when Hampidjan was a very different company running a fairly modest net loft by the Reykjavík docks and with a manufacturing facility in the city.
