Kirkcudbright Skipper John King and his crew will be heading for the queenie grounds off the west coast of Scotland when they leave Hull with the new automated scallop trawler King Explorer BA 829.

Ordered by the Kirkcudbright based scallop processing company West Coast Sea Products Ltd, the 24m King Explorer was built at the Hepworth Shipyard, Paull, on the North Bank of the Humber.

As part of the Rix group and managed by Gus Northen, Hepworth Shipyard is continuing Humberside's proud tradition of building top quality fishing vessels for which such leading companies as Cochrane of Selby and Cook, Welton and Gemmel of Beverley were renowned during the heyday of the sidewinders.
