IPNLF welcomes IOTC action on Indian Ocean tuna sustainability

The International Pole & Line Foundation (IPNLF) welcomed progress made at the 21st annual session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) last week, saying it was the first time that "meaningful discussions on the allocation of fishing opportunities" took place.

The meeting considered 16 proposals aimed at enhancing the management of the tuna fisheries in the Indian Ocean, a number of which were eventually adopted.

Adam Baske, director of policy and outreach at IPNLF, said there is "growing awareness of the threats facing Indian Ocean tuna fisheries."
