Karstenens Shipyard in Skagen, Denmark, has built a new 19.95m twin-rig stern trawler for Peterhead skipper James Buchan that features a number of interesting 'firsts' for the UK fleet.
One of the most significant features of Opportunus IV PD 96 - which is expected to operate as a dual purpose prawn/whitefish vessel - is the dedicated catch-handling arena on the main deck.
Situated amidships across the vessel's full beam and totally separated from all other activities, this area is fully insulated and lined to promote maximum levels of storage and hygiene before selected catches are transferred to either the chilled or freezer holds.
