Gulf shrimp landings in April were well above historic levels, according to NOAA data reported by the Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA).

Gulf fishermen landed 5.3 million pounds of shrimp in April, more than twice the 15-year average for the month (2.5 million pounds). The previous high for April was 3.8 million pounds in 2006. 

This brings the year-to-date Gulf shrimp landings to 15.7 million pounds, 32 percent higher than the prior 16-year average of 11.8
