Commercial fishing season in the Fraser River is likely to be canceled this summer as the biomass of sockeye in the is too low, reportsNews 1130.

Jennifer Nener, director of Salmon for Fisheries and Oceans, said the projected return is slightly under what’s needed to allow commercial fishing.

“Unfortunately for this year, it is most unlikely. We won’t have any commercial fisheries. The run is not likely to meet that 2.2 million [needed].”
