ONE OF the Scottish fish industry's most colourful figures has died after a long illness.

Dr Francis Clark, who was 78, started his career in medicine and qualified as a doctor at Aberdeen University before deciding that the fish trade was more lucrative than the medical profession.

He joined the family fish firm Claben, which became part of the Christian Salvesen Group in 1969. Dr Clark continued to head the group until 1976, when he started the firm that was to become one of Scotland's biggest processing concerns, Clipper Seafoods.
