COMMERCIAL fishermen in Holyhead have opened their own boatyard, reports Geoff Abbott.

The slipway and compound, which cost £684,583, was opened last week by deputy mayor John Chorlton and local MP Albert Owen.

It was funded by a joint venture between the Bolsach Boat Fishing Association Ltd (which incorporates Anglesey and North Wales Fishermen’s Association) and Anglesey County Council and was match-funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

In the past, lifting a vessel to and from the dock would cost £160 with additional storage fees, but now members of the association will only pay £20.
