FACTORTAME, the company that became synonymous with Spanish flag ship operations, is about to be struck off the UK register of companies, reports PIETER TESCH.

The UK Government was forced to award the company £584,705 in compensation when it lost the long legal action brought by the flag ships against the Government in the notorious Factortame case.

Factortame was one of the 135 or so companies involved in the action, which challenged the 1988 UK Merchant Shipping Act that prevented foreign owned fishing companies from registering in the UK.
