AFTER 35 years of trading the UK's most popular boatbuilding firm, Cygnus Marine, has closed its doors, reports Phil Lockley.

About a year after its three directors decided to retire, the yard has now been sold to a developer and the Cygnus Marine moulds and machinery are spread far and wide.

A large crowd gathered at the boatyard last Friday (29 February) to attend an auction of the firm's remaining goods.

The last but one Cygnus Marine boat, a Cyclone 30 kit that will soon be delivered to Holland, lay outside ready for despatch.
