The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is setting out 10 measures in a bid to remedy a lack of transparency in the global fishing industry, and help play a role in ending illegal fishing and human rights abuse in the sector.

The NGO's latest report, called "Out of the Shadows: improving transparency in global fisheries to stop illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing" was published Tuesday ahead of the Our Ocean conference in Bali.

According to the EJF, the "simple, low-cost measures" – which include publishing license lists and giving vessels unique numbers – are well within the reach of any country.
