THE new mussel dredger Valente has been delivered to the UK's largest mussel producer Myti Mussels of Bangor, North Wales.
She can carry bulk loads of up to 250 tons of seed for relaying or about 80 tonnes of saleable mussels in bags.
Maaskant Shipyards in The Netherlands delivered the mussel dredger from its Bruinisse yard five weeks ahead of schedule so that she could start work in the Menai Strait.
Sustained investment in large purpose-built dredgers by local mussel companies has maintained the Menai Strait as the largest mussel producing area in the UK.
