Cosalt has been a well-known name in the fishing industry for well over a century, but probably few people nowadays are aware of where the name came from.
It is derived from the company's original name when it was set up in 1873 as a cooperative of Grimsby fishing vessel owners: The Great Grimsby Coal, Salt and Tanning Company. This impressive name resounds with Victorian entrepreneurship, oak panelled boardrooms and moustached men with watches on chains in their waistcoat pockets.
In those days of sailing smacks, the company was involved in supplying a variety of products and services for a sizeable fleet of big fishing vessels.
