AN ISLE of Wight yard has built a catamaran for a Canadian fisherman that has been designed to work in conditions well below freezing.

Eastern Point is for Earl Johnson of North Harbour, Newfoundland, where temperatures can plunge to minus 30 degrees with ice on the sea and very difficult conditions on deck.

She is the eighteenth catamaran from South Boats of East Cowes and has been custom built at 34ft 10in to comply with Canadian fisheries regulations. She has a beam of 16ft 6in, a 3ft 6in draught and displaces around eight tonnes with full fuel and water.
