The Bristol Bay sockeye run is on its way to surpassing the forecast of 46 million fish, Alaska Department of Fish & Game Area Marine Biologist Tim Sands told IntraFish.

Currently, the run is at 44.5 million sockeye, with 1.7 million caught on Tuesday, he said.

"It doesn't just go from 1.7 million to nothing," Sands said. "It sort of steps down every day, so I think it's going to come in above forecast. I think we'll pass 50 million for the total run this year."
