Recently, after deciding to ignore the forecast (south east force 3 to 4) and give it a go, I prepared my flask one wet morning to begin a day's handline fishing for mackerel at the entrance to the Helford River.

South east winds are truly unpleasant for any small boat user working in Falmouth Bay, but on steaming directly into that breeze I thought it wasn't too bad.

In the distance I could see a new white boat, about 20ft or so in length, pole fishing for bass.
