Skippers at Brixham have recently bought several smaller trawlers, including the under12m scalloper/trawler Golden Ray BRD 493, which was previously based at Essex.

Tom Tooley, who was previously aboard the Brixham boat Amy R, bought Golden Ray from Robert Carter of Leigh-on-Sea. Now renamed Kasey Marie BM 517, the 13.4m LOA Golden Ray was built by Hepworth Shipyard in 1983 as the Ross Argus BA 17 for Graham Cargill of Dalbeattie and David McKie of Tobermory.

The vessel was renamed Golden Ray on moving to Morar in the late 80s, before Charles Wilkins took the Volvo 107kW-engined trawler to Leighon-Sea in 1998, five years before it was bought by Robert Carter.
