The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) said Thursday the 2016-2017 commercial Tanner and golden king crab fisheries in Southeast Alaska will open Feb. 17.

Joseph Stratman, shellfish biologist for the ADF&G Southeast Alaska office, said golden king crab's guideline harvest level (GHL) will be announced at the end of this month.

On the other hand, "tanner crab's harvest strategy regulation mandates we meet the mature male biomass threshold, which the 2016 biomass survey exceeded," said Stratman.
