David Linkie spent a day with Inverallochy skipper John Alexander to experience two very different types of inshore fishing aboard the purpose-built Cygnus GM33 static gear boat Chloe May FR, delivered by Seaway Marine in March.
Following his hunches rather than another six mackerel handline boats already fishing in a tight group half a mile east of Fraserburgh harbour, Skipper John Alexander headed Chloe May more to the south east.
Shortly after 3.30am in the half-light of a fine summer's morning, two mackerel traces were dropped over the side after a quick kick astern stopped Chloe May east of the Cairnbulg beacon.
