Maine, United States-based Bangs Island Mussels has acquired neighboring Calendar Island Mussels, a rival premium lines producer.
The acquisition will help Bangs Island better meet growing demand for its sustainably produced rope-grown mussels mussels among foodservice and retail customers, the company said.
"This acquisition is ideal for Bangs Island. We can actually see Calendar Island's operations from our current sites so we know that their specific locations provide optimal conditions for the highest quality mussels," Bangs Island Mussels CEO Matt Moretti said.
