Producers of alternative seafood products raised $116 million (€103 million) in the first half of 2021, a 45 percent increase over the amount of money these companies raised in all of 2020, according to the Good Food Institute (GFI), a nonprofit that promotes plant and cell-based alternatives to animal products.

Billy Goat Brands is part of this 2021 investment wave, making core investments in, among other things, Sophie’s Kitchen, a plant-based seafood manufacturer founded a decade ago.

The group invested in Sophie’s Kitchen in May and now holds a significant stake in the company, Tony Harris, CEO of the venture capital firm, told IntraFish.
