Faroese salmon farming, harvesting and processing giant Bakkafrost Group on Tuesday posted a 50 percent jump in operating profit in the second quarter, as record harvests and strong spot prices boosted its farming segment.

Bakkafrost posted earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) of DKK 459.2 million (€61.7 million/$72.8 million) in the second quarter, up from DKK 307.1 million (€41.3 million/$48.7 million) in the same quarter last year.

The company harvested a record volume 18,400 metric tons of fish in the quarter, and continued high spot prices gave the farming segment earnings before tax of DKK 489.5
