Nutreco-owned aquaculture feed giant Skretting has set its sights on being number one in the Chinese hatchery feed market, opening a new production line with the aim of dominating the salmonid, shrimp and marine fish space.
Skretting's Chinese entity opened the new line this month in Zhuhai, southern China, where the company already has a research center. It will start by producing five new hatchery feeds for the salmon, tilapia, golden pompano, snakehead and catfish industries.
In the second half of 2025, the company will kick off the second phase of the "Lifestart" project, in which it will expand to shrimp and a few other species that are important to the Chinese domestic market, Nutreco China General Manager Jason Yang told IntraFish.
