A private Russian company has launched a 25,000 metric-ton-per-year fish feed plant close to the Caspian Sea, an important step in the country’s attempts to replace imports lost since its invasion of Ukraine.
The addition of a second production line next year could double capacity at the plant in Astrakhan, making it the largest aquaculture feed complex in southern Russia. The plant is operated by Rybnye Korma, a privately owned company, the name of which translates as ‘Fish Feed’.
“It is important to accelerate import substitution,” Russia’s federal fisheries agency, known as Rosrybolovstvo, said in a statement announcing the opening of the plant.
