A new aquaculture feed plant is under construction in the south of Russia to help ease the dire shortages being felt by the country's salmonid and other fish farmers since countries such as Norway, Finland and Denmark pulled their supplies.

The new facility, named Rybnye Korma (Fish Feed), is under construction in the Lotus Special Economic Zone in the Astrakhan region.

“To date, the building is around 40 percent erected,” said Andrei Alekseev, Fish Feed's general director.

”Around 60 percent of high quality equipment for the new plant has already been imported from Denmark,” he said, adding that “it was not yet clear how the company would keep outfitting the new facility amid sanctions imposed on the Russia seafood sector.”
