Nutreco-owned feed giant Skretting announced Tuesday that Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz will be the keynote speaker at its AquaVision event June 13-15.

Stiglitz will address the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, increased raw material costs, inflation and higher interest rates.

Skretting CEO Therese Log Bergjord told IntraFish that the group chose to invite Stiglitz for his global overview of the world economy.

“In a time where we see significant challenges from the COVID pandemic, political unrest and a challenged supply chain, it will be interesting to get insight on these matters from an expert,” Bergjord said.

"I hope his contribution will leave the audience a little bit wiser."

In 2001, Stiglitz was awarded the Nobel Prize in economics. In addition, he was a lead author of the 1995 Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

He was chief economist and senior vice-president of the World Bank from 1997-2000.

This year's event is the 14th edition of AquaVision, and the first in person since 2018. The conference, which has been organized by Skretting and Nutreco since 1996, is held every two years.
