The Monterey Bay Aquarium's influential Seafood Watch program has given a "green" rating to Peru's industrial anchoveta fishery, one of the most important suppliers of marine ingredients to the aquaculture feed sector.

The program, famous for its wallet cards advising US consumers which seafood species they should consume, gave Peru’s northern industrial seine fishery a green, or so-called "Best Choice", rating, highlighting transparent and responsive fisheries management and low environmental impact, among other factors.

The ratings, given the prominence of Seafood Watch, are a huge boon for both the Peruvian fishing sector as well as for the aquaculture industry, whose reliance on marine ingredients has been criticized by opponents.
