The anchovy catch in Peru's key north-central fishery has exceeded 1 million tons for the season to date, or around 42 percent of the quota, the country’s Ministry of Production said in a statement.
The ministry’s latest update showed nearly 1.05 million metric tons had been harvested since the season began on April 16. The quota for the season was fixed at 2.475 million metric tons.
Peru accounts for around one-fifth of global fishmeal supply in an average year.
