BP-backed Calysta, a natural gas-based alternative feed producer, has broken ground on its first commercial-scale facility in Chongqing’s Changshou district in China through its joint-venture with Chinese feed additives giant Blue Star Adisseo.

The plant is expected to be the world’s first commercial-scale production facility of single-cell protein.

The first phase on the project will deliver 20,000 metric tons of FeedKind protein.

The plant will supply the Asian market, which represents more than 70 percent of the world’s aquafeed market.
