US-based alternative feed ingredients firm Calysta said it expects the first phase of its Feedkind single-cell protein plant to start production in China before the end of next year.

The plant at Chongqing is being built in conjuction with Chinese feed additives giant Blue Star Adisseo. It is scheduled to initially produce 20,000 metric tons of Feedkind single-cell protein.

"We expect that plant to be completed in the third quarter of 2022, so about 18 months from now, and producing in the fourth quarter of 2022," Calysta Vice President Allan LeBlanc said during The Economist World Ocean Summit.
