A decade of research across multiple species has prompted Denmark-based feed group BioMar to endorse novel ingredients as viable raw materials for meeting growing demand from the aquaculture sector.
In addition to delivering on sustainability metrics, many alternative feed ingredients are also able to boost fish growth, health and welfare, BioMar said, in comments last week marking 10 years of research into a wide range of novel ingredients.
The research involved multiple studies undertaken by more than 100 scientists into ingredients such as fermented raw materials, insect meal, single-cell algae, fungi, yeast and bacterial meal.
