Top executives at leading Norwegian salmon farming companies are feeling bolder about adding omega-3 oils derived from genetically modified (GM) canola, after years of fearing consumer backlash.

At a panel discussion held earlier this month in Bergen, Norway, during the North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF), Cermaq CEO Steven Rafferty, Grieg Seafood CEO Andreas Kvame and Salmon Group Chief Procurement Officer Christine Larsen all agreed that while the biggest barrier has been consumer perception, the industry needs to take the leap.
