EIIdefends Dolphin Safe label
The World Trade Organization (WTO)’sruling on ‘Dolphin Safe’ label is "unfortunate, confusing andcontradictory," said Mark Berman, director of the international monitoringprogram, Earth Island Institute.
He wasresponding to a claim by Mark Robertson, president of Potomac Global Advisors,who said the WTO’s ruling on the dolphin-safe label being a trade barrier was a"victory for the environment and consumers."
Robertsonsaid the label “misled rather than informed” and was inaccurate because it doesnot provide any certification about mortalities or injuries of dolphins causedin the capture of tuna.
