Transferable concessions 'off the table'
Transferable Fishing Concessions (TFCs) are now "off the table" from efforts to reform the CFP, said the Scottish fisheries minister Richard Lochhead.
The European fishing industry appears to have finally rejected the EU fisheries commission's proposal to establish TFCs (formerly known as Individual Transferrable Quotas), Lochhead said.
In an exclusive interview with IntraFish at the Skipper International fishing show Lochhead said that the issue of discards and conservation of stock was becoming accepted at senior political levels in Brussels as the way ahead.
"The introduction of such as system would have been extremely damaging to the fishing industries and coastal communities and would have provided little benefit except to line the pockets of major international fishing companies," Lochhead said.
