"We have a lot to gain by having the industry in a few hands, and our clients want that stability," Victor Hugo Puchi, chairman at AquaChile told attendees of the IntraFishSeafood Investment Forum, held in London last week.
"But we need investment," he said.
In his company presentation, Puchi highlighted the challenges Chile's producers are facing, after the crisis in 2007 and 2008.
Even though a new legal framework, clear and strong protocols, individual screenings and other restrictions have turned fish farming into a positive direction, more consolidation and investment is needed to build strong fundamental for the Chilean salmon industry, he said.
