Faroese salmon farmer Bakkafrost may be less diversified than other European salmon farmers, but the company has secured strong positions in both the US and Japan for its premium product, CFO Teitur Samulsen told attendees at the IntraFish Seafood Investment Forum in New York City.
Bakkafrost is the largest salmon farming company in the Faroe Islands, and is vertically integrated with hatchery, harvesting, meal, oil and sales.
Samulsen said the Faroes' strong veterinary health standards, excellent geography and recognizable brand give the industry an advantage in the marketplace.
