The Great American Seafood Cook-off needs a strong dose of seafood. No, not fish or shellfish; it needs YOU – the seafood industry.
It seems counter-intuitive that an event called The Great American Seafood Cook-off is sorely lacking any significant support of the American seafood industry, but it is -- and, frankly, it has been since its birth 13 years ago.
And that’s just plain wrong.
I would argue that this event is the premiere showcase for seafood in the United States. Over its lifespan it has attracted the support and marketing power of celebrity chefs; it has been featured programming on the Food Network and PBS television channels; it has produced immeasurable press coverage at both the state and national levels; and has played an instrumental role in rebuilding the Gulf seafood industry’s reputation in the wake of two crippling disasters – Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill.
