(Editor's note: The following letter was sent by Sylvia Beaudoin of Wild Harvest Seafoods to IntraFish, through LinkedIn, in response to our commentary: Is Alaska salmon farming such a wild idea?)

For more than thirty years the state of Alaska, through locally run aquaculture programs, has successfully enhanced its wild stocks by raising fry at hatcheries strategically located around the state for growth and release.

These enhancement programs are entirely self-funded from the proceeds of sales of salmon harvested by area fishermen who work in concert with area processors that have put in the highest bid.
