Letter: Eco-label editorial misses the mark

(The following letter was sent by Jose Villalon, corporate sustainability director, Nutreco. When working for WWF, he led the formation of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and was the ASC’s first chairman.)

John Fiorillo’s recent IntraFish OpEd entitled; “Consolidate the eco-label alphabet” missed the mark by a long shot. If his proposed opinion prevails it will set the aquaculture industry back by more than a decade.

Over 10-years ago the WWF inspired Aquaculture Dialogues began the ambitious process of creating environmental/social standard for the industry under the most transparent and stringent process ever undertaken.
